Every once in awhile I have to take a walk on the "wild" side and this last Tuesday evening brought me to Shishka Lebanese Grill in the New Pompano Citi Centre located at 1955 N Federal Highway. This cute Mediterranean food spot fills the air with with tantalizing aromas as you start getting closer to the door. They have outside as well as inside seating and you can eat in or get your order to go.
I chose to dine inside and after being seated the server brought a light snack of green olives. I started with an appetizer of Tabboulah, a combination of parsley, onion, tomato, cracked wheat, lemon juice and olive oil. It was very tasty and warmed my taste buds for the entree that followed.
My main course was the Mixed Grill which consisted of a skewer of Kafta Kabob, seasoned ground meat mixed with diced onion and chopped parsley, a skewer of ShishTabook, marinated chicken breast, served with Lebanese garlic sauce, and a skewer of Shish Kabob, marinated lamb cubes. To keep my carb count down I swapped the rice for veggies.
Each bite was better than the one before as I rotated from lamb to beef to chicken and then back again. I spread the garlic sauce over the chicken to add an additional burst of flavor.
The atmosphere was very typical of a Middle Eastern cafe with soft regional music in the background and succulent aromas in the air. I ended with a tiny cup of extremely strong coffee and was genuinely surprised when the owner stopped by the table to inquire about my meal.
Shishka Lebanese Grill is not just another fast food mall joint. This place is the real thing and I am sure I will be returning to try some of the other items on the extensive menu.
