A Great Place: Sal's Hagen Ranch Rd

I've been here more times than I can count and have always had a tasty, economical meal. They have all the usual Italian fare and their pasta fagioli is exceptional!

Ask for your pizza "thin and crispy" and it will come to you exactly that way. One of my favorites is the "chicken scarpariello." Michelle loves the "chicken parm" with a dollop of ricotta cheese which makes a richer, sweeter flavor. It is definitely worth a try.

Seven dollar large pizzas on Mondays and Tuesdays or try my favorite "the New Yorker" and order it thin and crispy, just like the picture.

Kings County Pizza is a Contender for Best Pizza in South Florida

I have been reading some great reviews about Kings County Pizza located on W. Dixie Highway a few blocks south of Miami Gardens Drive in North Miami Beach. Several food blogs have spotlighted this small place as possibly having the best pizza in South Florida. I finally had a chance to drop in and pick up a slice and talked with Rob, the owner for a few minutes.

I ordered my slice of cheese pizza to go as I had an appointment several miles away and took my first bite as I headed towards I95. I was totally surprised with the first bite. The crust held up well and had a perfect crunch as a bite snapped off in my mouth. The robust tomato taste was immediately followed with the feel and taste of melted mozzerella cheese.

Villa Rose Pizza - 50 Years and Going Strong

This long time Hollywood pizza joint has withstood the coming and going of thousands of other pizza places in the Hollywood area. Why? Because they still make the best pizza in town.

Grande Pizza Co. Boca Raton

I never would have found this gem if it wasn't for Groupon. They ran a special through Groupon several months ago and since the location wasn't too far off my flight path I thought I'd take a chance. Since my first visit I have been back four additional times. Each time I tried something different.

This is not your typical pizza joint. You walk in past a tall counter behind which sits the pizza ovens and then the place opens up into a large room with a big U shaped bar and several tables. Then when I tasted the food and I KNEW it was different!

Imposto's Pizzeria Across from Carlo's Bakery Hoboken, NJ

Michelle and I recently had the opportunity to go to Atlantic City, New Jersey, along with Steve and Illona. We rented a car so we would have the ability to travel around the area and not get stuck spending all our time in the casino.

Steve has wanted to visit "Carlo's Bakery," made famous by the "Cake Boss" TV show on the Learning Channel and this was his chance. After a two and a half hour car ride we arrived in Hoboken and got directions from a very nice Hoboken resident. Steve parallel parked on Washington Street about a block from the bakery, right near Imposto's Pizzaria.

Corelino's Coal Oven Pizza & Cucina

Michelle and I were ready to try out a new place late on a recent Monday night. It was about 9pm when I rolled into the shopping center where Chris' Taverna is located in Lantana. On our previous visits to Chris' I had eyed a small Italian place on the corner, in the same shopping center, named Corelino's Coal Oven Pizza & Cucina.

I parked the car and we walked up to the windows and we could see that they were already cleaning up to close. There was a gentleman sitting at one of the outside tables underneath the overhang eating his meal. "I think they're still open," he said, "push on the door."

Primanti Bros.

If you have never been to Primanti's your first visit will be quite a treat. I first learned about Primanti's from the Travel Channel on TV. They had a several minute excerpt about the original Primanti's in Pittsburgh, Pa. and it was very interesting.

Pizzaria Owner Sabotages Competition in PA

While I was surfing I found this interesting news video about an aggressive pizza parlor owner who tried a unique way to discredit his competitors.

Don and Vinny's

Don and Vinny's is my kind of place. A small place, in a shopping center, where you are greeted like long lost family and treated as such, too. Occasionally, Vinny comes out from the kitchen with his bandanna to ask around, "is it good? Do you like? Everything okay?"

Michelle and I were introduced to Don and Vinny's by my sister Lydia and brother-in-law Pepe on a Saturday night a couple of months ago.

Dominic's

Dominic's has become one of my favorite Italian restaurants. A friend first introduced me to Dominic's at their Hypoluxo Rd. location. "It looks like a pizza joint," he said, as he was giving me driving directions. And he was correct. The waiter suggested the chicken rollatini daily special and I was happy to oblige. I skipped the salad and instead opted for the pasta fagioli. I often rate a restaurant on the taste of the pasta fagioli and Dominic's rated high!
