Chris' Taverna

First of all I want to tell you that I'm not a huge fan of Greek food. But I do like to have it every few months. Michelle likes it more than I and I thought it was time to find a Greek restaurant in the area that we could occasionally go to. I turned to Yelp for assistance and found that Chris' Taverna had excellent reviews and it wasn't very far away.

The restaurant is tucked away in a strip shopping center next to a drug store and in the evening utilizes the front sidewalk of both places to provide an abundance of outdoor seating. We were cheerfully greeted even before we reached the front door and told to sit wherever we preferred. The inside was about half full and we chose a table for six in the corner although we were only two.

Within a few seconds our smiling waitress appeared for our drink order with menus in hand and I asked the same question that I ask every time I go to a new restaurant. "What's the best thing on the menu?" anticipating the stock answer, "everything!"

"Everything," our waitress said with a big grin. And by the end of our meal I agreed.

Our drinks arrived promptly with utensils rolled in a napkin, extra napkins and a small platter of fresh, warm pita bread and the best tzaziki sauce I ever had in my life. The bread was soft and tasted like it was right out of the oven.

We skipped the appetizers and went right for the gusto. Michelle ordered the Lamb Chops which came with a choice of two sides. She took Greek potatoes and orzo. I got the Eleni Combo which consisted of a small Greek salad with a piece of Moussaka, Pastitsio, and spinach pie.

The five baby lamb chops came stacked over a heap of roasted red peppers and looked exactly like the picture on their website. They were perfectly char grilled and were dee-lishus! The Greek potatoes were outstanding as was the orzo which came mixed in a tasty tomato sauce.

My combo was excellent and was the best Greek food I have ever sampled! Our drinks were refilled often and our waitress came around to ensure that everything was to our liking. We ended the meal with a slice of baklava. Scrumptious!

Chris' Taverna has got the recipe down pat: Cheerful, efficient employees. Delicious, perfectly prepared food, reasonable prices and plenty of parking. All that gives Chris' Taverna the White Plate Special's highest ranking!

I've never been to this place but you make it sound so good I am going to go next time I'm in the area. It's a long way from Miami!
