Monday was my birthday. Just another milestone and like plenty of other people out there I wanted to celebrate at a restaurant of choice. I was staying at the Marriott near Andrews Ave and Cypress Creek. Just across the street from a Longhorn Restaurant, one of my favorite locations when I'm in the mood for steak.
I checked the Internet on my laptop in the hotel room and I saw that Okeechobee Steakhouse offers a FREE dinner on your birthday but it was farther than I wanted to drive on this Monday night. My inbox had a FREE DESSERT offer from Longhorn as a birthday reward, and since it was across the street, it would be the ideal place to spend my birthday. But, there was no way to print out the coupon so Michelle called Longhorn to see what we could do.
A very polite person answered the phone and replied that we would definitely need the physical coupon to receive the birthday promotion and they apologized that there was nothing they could do. Not the replay I expected or appreciated. So instead we went to Myron's Deli at the Isle Casino. They didn't have a coupon for a free dessert but when I told them it was my birthday they brought out a giant slice of chocolate, seven layer cake with a lighted candle and sang "Happy Birthday" to me.
I just don't understand Longhorn's position. Promotions are designed to get people into the restaurant but some restaurants use them to turn business away.
Next year I think I'll go to Okeechobee Steakhouse for my birthday. The only thing I need is my driver's license to get a free birthday dinner!
